Somaly Mam Receives Honorary Degree

November 16, 2007

On Friday, November 9, 2007, human rights activist Somaly Mam received an honorary doctor of public service from Regis University for her efforts to combat the sex slave trade. Regis president, Father Michael J. Sheeran, S.J. applauded Mam’s work “to bring change and make a real difference in our world” and her “enduring commitment to the service of the people.” Mam related her experience both as a victim and an activist to a crowd of over 500 in the St. John Francis Regis Chapel on the University’s campus. The event was sponsored by several academic departments at Regis University and Sassy 107.1, which featured an on-air interview with Mam.

  1. Congratulations to Somaly Mam for the amazing efforts she has put into relieving the widespread sufferings of her fellow human beings, welldeserved Honorary Doctorate of Public Service. I recommend she also be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian work. She is my hero! Katherine
