New Foundation Helps Victims of Human Trafficking

(DENVER, CO) – September 19, 2007 – Denver-based internet entrepreneur Nicholas Lumpp and LA-based mangement consultant Jared Greenberg today announced the launch of The Somaly Mam Foundation to commit support to the crimes of human trafficking in Cambodia. This often hidden and ignored $12 billion industry, protected by corrupt officials and an indifferent public is growing larger every day. The U.S. State Department estimates that 17,500 people are sold in the United States annually, contributing to the growing statistic that more people are enslaved globally through human trafficking than at the height of the transatlantic slave trade. Co-founders account of journey to Cambodia

Peering out the window of the 737, I spotted a small terminal across the runway. I squinted, my eyes struggling to stay open after an exhausting 19-hour flight to the other side of the world. I had not even considered that a week later I would be co-founding an organization with one of the greatest leaders of our time or that I would be involved in a presentation to the U.N. Security Council the following month. I nudged Jared, who was sound asleep in the seat next to me. “We’re finally here!”
